Walking the Fisherman's Trail on the Rota Vicentina
Four days on the cliffs of the Alentejo coast, from Porto Covo to Odeceixe: what to pack and where to stop.
The Rota Vicentina is a network of marked trails along the wildest coast of Europe. Its Fisherman's Trail follows the paths the fishermen take to reach the rocks and beaches, often on sand, always above the ocean.
Four stages
- Porto Covo to Vila Nova de Milfontes, 20 km
- Vila Nova de Milfontes to Almograve, 15 km
- Almograve to Zambujeira do Mar, 22 km
- Zambujeira do Mar to Odeceixe, 18 km
When to go
Spring for the wild flowers and the storks nesting on the sea stacks, autumn for warm water and quiet villages. Avoid the midday sun in summer: there is little shade.
