Why we started
The best days we spent in Portugal were never in a guidebook. A walk with a woman who grew up in Sintra, a dinner in a room of thirty seats where fado was sung without a microphone, a morning on a farm outside Évora. We built Places so anyone can find those days, and so the people who offer them are paid fairly.
Local, and only local
Every host on Places lives where they work. Guides, surf instructors, winemakers, potters and cooks: we meet each one before their page goes online.
Shops as well as activities
Many of our hosts also make things: tiles, wool blankets, olive oil, tinned fish. You can buy them here and have them delivered, or collect them on your visit.
Fair to everyone
Hosts set their own prices and keep most of every booking. Most activities can be cancelled free of charge up to 24 hours before.
